Overview

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high‑performance data centers to dynamic commercial environments, your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review structural documents to identify conflicts with all disciplines.
  • Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
  • Coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases.
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies to ensure code compliance.
  • Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
  • Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to meet schedule.
  • Assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFI, change proposals, change orders, and incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
  • Lead the structural team to complete the design of projects from schematic through bid phase services.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis.
  • NY or NJ professional engineer (PE).
  • SE Certification.
  • 15+ years of experience.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
  • Experience with water‑bearing structures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software.
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts.
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
