Structural Engineer
Duties
- You will have expertise in independently performing analysis and preparing Structural designs for a wide range of facilities of the type as would commonly be found on a DoD Installation.
- You will have expertise in developing complex Structural designs and analysis utilizing engineering software and drawings in Auto Cad and REVIT.
- You will possess in-depth knowledge of specifications, criteria, policy, industry criteria and standards, and standard practices as related to Structural Engineering.
- You will be able to provide leadership and specialized engineering consultation and support to the NAVFAC SE Structural Engineering community.
- You will have expertise in ensuring that the Structural aspects of projects are constructed in accordance with the contract plans and specifications.
- You will be proficient in the following construction support activities: Review and Approve shop drawings, Delegated Designs, Value Engineering Cost Proposals (VECPs), and provide technical responses to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- You will have expertise in developing Architect and Engineering Statements of Work and providing design, scope, and budget oversite for projects.

- This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
- You will be required to be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) at the GS-13 level.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
Qualifications This position has a Selective Placement Factor (SPF). You must have a current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) from any state, the District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico. If you meet this requirement, you must provide a copy of your current registration with your application. A copy of a wall certificate that does not show current registration status will not serve to verify you meet this requirement. In addition to the SPF, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Providing structural engineering analysis and expertise for designs on a wide range of complex projects on new and existing facilities; 2) Preparing work drawings and technical specifications for the structural portion on construction projects; 3) Performing field investigations to verify and document existing conditions as a basis for the design for new/existing projects; 4) Providing technical specifications and assisting with detailed labor and material cost estimates for use in obtaining project funding for bid evaluation; and 5) Managing assigned projects from cradle to grave for adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards.
