About the Role

Collins Aerospace’s Global Engineering & Technology Center in Puerto Rico (GETC-PR) is seeking a technically experienced Structures Engineer to support the Landing Systems Engineering organization and advanced technology methods development. The role is located in Aguadilla, PR and requires the candidate to reside in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered. This is a hybrid position with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote, following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform structural analysis of Landing Systems components and assemblies while collaborating as part of an integrated team.
  • Independently develop structural analysis solutions when historical solutions are not available or applicable using classical methods and/or detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Conduct risk assessments to ensure the structural integrity of Landing Systems hardware, including static and fatigue failure modes.
  • Own and manage projects with minimal oversight while meeting deadlines, budgets, and maintaining high‑quality standards.
  • Provide structural analysis support for New Product Introduction (NPIs), material non‑conformances (MRBs), Part Deviation Addendums (PDAs), and field investigations.
  • Deliver analysis results and recommendations through detailed documentation, formal reports, and presentations for management and customers.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and serve as the structures focal point in integrated product teams to provide design recommendations and solutions that meet technical, weight, and cost targets.
  • Assist in the creation of test plans and support validation and verification testing of components for structural, thermal, and dynamic performance and behavior.
  • Utilize test data to calibrate and improve analytical methods.
  • Develop and automate status reports through tools such as MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Drive continuous improvement of analytical methods and processes to enhance productivity and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentoring to entry‑level structures engineers, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in FEA tools such as ANSYS (APDL, LS-Dyna, or Workbench), Abaqus, PATRAN/NASTRAN.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM tools (e.g., NX CAD/CAM, Catia CAD/CAM).
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5.
  • Experience with linear and nonlinear structural analysis using FEA tools.
  • Familiarity with composite materials, adhesives, and advanced manufacturing processes for aerospace applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multi‑disciplinary trade studies to optimize structural design solutions.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and best practices for airworthiness certification (e.g., FAA, EASA).
  • Prior experience with testing and validating structural components, including data analysis and correlation to simulation results.
  • Experience with automation of engineering processes and workflows using programming tools such as MATLAB, Python, or similar.
  • Leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
