Our client, a leader in the energy sector, is currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with a focus on substation projects to join their team in Houston. This permanent role is integral to delivering world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across various sectors, including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead structural design from conceptual phase through design completion, ensuring all project needs and requirements are met.
  • Prepare structural equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review structural vendor drawings and liaise with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Develop project schedules, scopes, budgets, staffing, and construction plans, managing change orders effectively.
  • Utilise expert knowledge of structural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures to tackle complex projects.
  • Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and construction administration.
  • Lead field inspections, installations, measurements, and calculations for both public and private clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, customers, and contractors.
  • Assist with sales and marketing initiatives and identify new business opportunities.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program, OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with FE exam completion, OR
  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering with significant experience.
  • Extensive experience in structural engineering, preferably in EPC projects.
  • Expert knowledge in standard structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE7).
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading design for large projects and guiding team members.
  • Strong problem-solving, organisational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform detailed quality reviews and travel as required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Licence preferred.
