Responsibilities
- Apply extensive knowledge of engineering principles in broad project assignments.
- Make independent decisions on engineering problems and create unique design solutions.
- Represent the firm in meetings and conferences, resolving technical questions and coordinating projects.
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct medium to large engineering projects with responsibility for budget, schedule, quality, and inter‑discipline coordination.
- Accept or reject major items involving materials, equipment, and field construction.
- Serve as a technical specialist or staff advisor in specialized roles requiring advanced techniques.
- Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of engineers and designers on assigned projects.
- Define project scope and organize tasks into manageable components.
- Provide scope‑of‑work change warnings to supervisors and project managers.
- Maintain continuing professional education in the discipline.
- Engage in client contact and business development activities.
- Meet with clients to define scope, present progress, and ensure satisfaction.
- Travel required.
- Valid driver’s license required (may be waived for international assignments).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (in the state of practice) required.
- PE licensure, or PE‑track preferred, with at least two (2) years at SSOE as Engineer 4, or equivalent educational and registration credentials with eight (8) or more years of related experience.
- If not registered, five (5) years at SSOE as Engineer 4 or eleven (11) years of related experience with a former employer required.
- Experience with commercial projects in Health, Education, Government, Higher Education, Retail, and Airports.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA).
- Experience with building codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, ASIC, and ACI.
- Working knowledge of Revit.
- Strong client‑facing communication skills and experience leading technical discussions with architects, contractors, and owners.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑discipline coordination, review processes, and change control in complex projects.
