Senior Structural Engineer - Telework Option

Department of General Services

Salary: $11,969.00 - $14,977.00 per Month

Job Description and Duties

Telework: Eligible to telework up to two days a week, per State Telework Policy; required to report to office as needed.

Under the direction of the Supervising Structural Engineer, the position reviews and approves the more difficult and complex structural drawings and specifications related to design and structure for public schools, community colleges, and essential services building projects to ensure compliance with the California Building Code (CBC), California Code of Regulations (CCR), and all applicable other governing regulatory requirements.

The position may be downgraded to Structural Engineering Associate; duties will be adjusted accordingly.

Conflict of Interest Code: Designated under Conflict of Interest Code; required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year.

Special Requirements

  • State of California Structural Engineer license required; copy of license must be provided prior to hire.
  • State of California Civil Engineer license required; copy of license must be provided prior to hire.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in interpreting Title 24 Building Standards Code adopted by the Division of the State Architect.
  • Knowledge and experience in structural design and construction materials and methods in school construction.
  • Knowledge and experience in rehabilitation of existing structures using the California Building Codes, including ASCE 41 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings.
  • Experience performing structural engineering plan review.
  • Experience working with Division of the State Architect or HCAI/OSHPD.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to performing duties in a service-oriented manner.
  • Communicate well with others and handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Good writing and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in use of Bluebeam and various industry standard structural engineering programs.
  • Dependable, reliable and punctual; able to take directions regarding work responsibilities.
