Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is growing. We are seeking a Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer with 10+ years of experience in the analysis and design of new and rehabilitated structures for the structural engineering team in Raleigh, NC or other office locations.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical design of bridge or structural projects.
- Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of mid‑to‑large, multi‑discipline bridge projects with high technical complexity.
- Establish client relations and participate in marketing, contractual, design, and production meetings.
- Conduct schematic, design development, and contractual document work sessions with project managers and other disciplines.
- Ensure project deliverables and supporting documentation are complete, understandable, and meet client and AMT requirements.
- Coordinate staffing and workload throughout project development to meet schedules.
- Collaborate with the Business/Accounting Manager and Discipline/Managing Director for project reviews.
- Implement QA/QC procedures and review bridge plans.
- Execute training and development for personnel and mentor less experienced project managers.
- Maintain professional engineering registration.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution (Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- 10+ years of project and client‑management experience with significant project exposure.
- Proficiency in MS Office and desired structural design software (LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LARSA 4D, LPile, MDX, Descus, AASHTOWare BrR, Merlin DASH, spColumn, Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads/Bridge, etc.).
- Demonstrated business‑development and strategic‑planning skills.
- Strong communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring capabilities.
- Willingness to perform hands‑on bridge condition inspections and work at heights.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing and willingness to travel locally (rare overnight stays).
- Successful completion of a post‑offer background check.
Physical Requirements: Majority of work is office‑based. Some field work may be required, including navigating unpaved or natural terrain, carrying equipment, and exposure to extreme heat, cold, or inclement weather.
