Senior Structural (Bridge) Engineer

Job Description

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Structural (Bridge) Engineer in our Fairfax, VA office to grow and strengthen our transportation design practice. The successful candidate will design simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction) and a variety of transportation related structures. Bridge design work encompasses new and replacement bridges, bridge widening, and bridge rehabilitation. The candidate will be responsible for and complete all phases of structural project development including planning, scheduling, inspection, analysis, design, development of contract plans, cost estimates, and technical specifications and reports. Successfully leading a team of structural engineers and coordinating with other project disciplines and clients will be required to complete assignments.

Responsibilities

• Manages the structural elements on design and design-build projects.
• Assigns tasks to engineers and provides technical assistance/guidance.
• Mentors, coaches, and directs staff engineers.
• Performs structural analysis and develops structures designs, construction plans, cost estimates, reports, and technical specifications.
• Assists with the preparation of project schedules and budgets.
• Performs QC reviews of design documentation and plans prepared by staff engineers and other consultants.
• Coordinates with clients, subconsultants, and design-build contractors.

Required Skills & Experience

• BS in Civil Engineering (MS with emphasis in Structural Engineering preferred).
• 10+ years of experience working on bridge transportation projects.
• VA PE license or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Design-Build experience is a plus.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Strong desire to be a key contributor in an outstanding team of industry-leading professionals.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to pass a driving record background check.
• No sponsorship for work authorization.
