Senior/Staff Systems EngineerNeptune Medical, an innovative, venture capital funded medical device startup headquartered in Burlingame, CA, is building a fully flexible medical robot that will disrupt flexible endoscopy and set a new standard in outcomes for decades to come.Title: Senior/Staff Systems EngineerPosition Summary: The Senior/Staff Systems Engineer will take a technical leadership role that is comprised of framing the approach to unstructured design problems of a medical robot, analysis, experimental design, prototyping, and final recommendations to hardware/software teams and senior management. The engineer will also be involved in integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components to bring a surgical robot to life. This individual will be intimately involved across hardware, software, and clinical use of the integrated system.Roles and Responsibilities:Lead system design discussions to provide design input to hardware and software teamsFrame analysis and experimental approaches to drive answers to unstructured design questions without clear solutionsPrototype solutions in both software and hardwareIntegrate software and hardware and test the integrated system in clinically relevant conditionsSignificantly contribute to/lead system risk analysisSignificantly contribute to/lead product requirements definitionSupport clinical development labs while learning the clinical use caseRequired Qualifications:B.S., M.S.

or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar4-12 years of hands-on experience in robotics or other complex electromechanical systemsSpecific experience and expertise with: MechatronicsRobotics fundamentals including kinematics, system dynamics, sensors, and actuatorsPython or Matlab for scripting and data analysis, or other programming languageExcellent verbal and written communications skills including presentation of technical contentWillingness to work in a startup environment and adapt to changing needs and prioritiesEagerness to learn new thingsPreferred Qualifications:Robot Operating System (ROS)Embedded and/or real time programming in C, RUST, or C++Depth in at least one technical area – mechanical design, C/C++ programming, electrical design, system dynamics and controls etc.Experience managing projects and leading small technical teamsFormal system Verification and Validation (V&V) proceduresExperience in the regulated medical device environment, including but not limited to document control processes, design control processes, test protocol development, and report writing.Experience working with healthcare providers in a hospital environmentExperience with using data science techniques to create actionable recommendationsNeptune Medical is located in Burlingame, CA, near the Millbrae Caltrain and BART StationOur job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $170,000 and $220,000 depending on experience.

The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
