Explicitly requires vibe/agentic coding skills and AI-native workflows (prompt engineering, Spec-Driven Development, RALPH Loops) to rapidly ship features.
About the Role
Senior Software Engineer to lead development of backend and generative-AI content pipelines for a newly funded edtech product, building an AI workflow engine and resilient, scalable Python/TypeScript infrastructure. Act as technical lead for agentic coding, prompt and context engineering, and ship multiple substantial features per week.
Job Description
Role
Senior Software Engineer (full-time, salaried) to join a small, growing engineering team building new edtech products. The role is focused on back-end systems, generative AI content pipelines, and building an AI workflow engine and agentic orchestration to support teachers and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior individual contributor and technical lead, reporting to the Head of Engineering and collaborating with product leaders.
- Ship multiple substantial features per week using agentic coding workflows and AI-assisted development.
- Design and implement the AI workflow engine: graph-based agentic orchestration with nodes, conditional edges, interrupts, human-in-the-loop circuit breakers, durable execution, and long-running work that survives restarts and outages.
- Compose and steward agentic pipelines: write detailed prompts/specifications, orchestrator agents, dispatch agent teams, and engineer RALPH loops with completion guarantees.
- Architect resilient, high-scale backend systems across Python and TypeScript; own system design, API boundaries, and database performance to ensure availability and security.
- Maintain and extend the context layer (Agent Skills, AGENTS.md ) and produce living production artifacts such as versioned prompt chains and annotated datasets.
- Build evaluation harnesses and cross-provider benchmarks for cost, latency, and quality; implement durable execution and provider-agnostic model routing.
- Review teammates’ and contractors’ work, write PR comments and design docs, and raise the engineering bar through collaboration and code review.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an AI-native engineer using agentic/AI-assisted development workflows.
- Expert-level prompt engineering and context engineering skills; experience with Spec-Driven Development (e.g., GitHub Spec Kit).
- Experience building backend AI orchestration layers and agentic pipelines; familiarity with graph-based orchestration concepts (nodes, edges, interrupts, circuit breakers).
- Strong backend engineering skills in Python and TypeScript; systems design and API/database performance tuning for scale.
- Experience designing durable execution for long-running work, evaluation harnesses, structured outputs, and versioned prompt chains.
- Comfortable writing production-grade specifications, prompts, and Agent Skills; able to operate autonomously in a small team and ship frequently.
- Familiarity with Claude Code and/or OpenAI Codex is expected; familiarity with LangGraph or equivalent orchestration tooling is desirable.
Preferred / Helpful
- Experience building edtech products and handling sensitive education data (COPPA, CIPA, FERPA, PPRA, SOC 2).
- Experience with annotated datasets, cross-provider benchmarking, and cost/latency/quality trade-offs.
- Salary: $160,000 - $190,000 per year (salaried)
- Employer-sponsored health insurance (CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield)
- Employer-sponsored dental and vision insurance (MetLife)
- Participation in Vanguard 403(b) with 3% employer match
- Paid Time Off (vacation/PTO 20 days), paid holidays, paid parental leave, sick/safe leave, "Me Days", and ability to earn paid comp time
- Annual continuous learning budget (available after 6 months)
- FSA and Dependent Care FSA access
- 1x salary company-paid life insurance
- Wishbone pet insurance benefit
- Ability to work remotely and set your own hours (within reason)
