New York, NY | $200K-$300K + Equity | On-site
We are working with an early-stage, venture-backed technology company building software and AI for a large, historically underserved industry. They're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with deep infrastructure and distributed systems experience to join a small engineering team in NYC. You'll work directly with the founders, owning major technical problems end-to-end and helping establish the architecture and engineering foundations of the company.
This is not a traditional DevOps/SRE role . They're looking for a software engineer who has built serious production systems and wants to own the infrastructure and platform underneath a rapidly scaling company.
What you'll do
- Design and build core platform and distributed systems from the ground up
- Own architecture decisions across backend systems and shared infrastructure
- Build multi-tenant infrastructure that scales efficiently as the business grows
- Own the path from commit → production, including CI/CD, testing, deployment workflows and developer tooling
- Establish observability, monitoring, reliability and incident-response practices
- Make pragmatic architecture decisions balancing speed today with scale tomorrow
- Build internal abstractions and tooling that make the entire engineering team faster
- Work directly with the CTO on the company's hardest technical problems
What we're looking for
- 6+ years of software engineering experience , with significant backend, platform, infrastructure or distributed systems depth
- Experience scaling production systems at a rapidly growing, VC-backed startup
- At least one recognizable growth-stage technology company on your background
- Strong distributed systems fundamentals and experience operating systems at meaningful production scale
- Evidence of personally owning important architecture decisions - not simply operating infrastructure designed by others
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and taking problems from idea → architecture → implementation → production
- Experience with CI/CD, developer tooling, multi-tenant systems, observability or incident response is a plus
They're tech-stack agnostic and care much more about the complexity and scale of systems you've owned than whether you've used a particular tool.
