Job Description: M&T Bank is seeking a Senior Mainframe Software Engineer to support the enhancement, maintenance, modernization, and production support of mission-critical mainframe applications. This role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting application changes using IBM mainframe technologies. The engineer will serve as a key individual contributor on complex initiatives, partner with business and technology stakeholders, and help ensure that supported applications remain stable, secure, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete and oversee basic to complex systems analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, implementation, and production support activities.
- Prepare and review user stories, acceptance criteria, technical documentation, test plans, estimates, impact assessments, and system documentation in support of Agile delivery.
- Evaluate interrelationships and dependencies across programs, interfacing applications, vendors, platforms, and business processes.
- Provide analytical consultation to identify effective technology solutions that support strategic business goals.
- Follow and promote M&T development standards, Agile practices, DevOps practices, change management processes, and risk and regulatory controls.
- Deploy mainframe components through automated pipelines and support issue identification, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
- Coordinate development tasks, communicate status and risks clearly, and collaborate with business partners, application teams, operations, and vendor partners.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to less experienced engineers.
- Participate in on-call or off-hours production support as needed to maintain application availability and stability.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the business processes supported by the application and promote an inclusive environment consistent with the M&T Bank brand.
