Application Development Manager

NOTE: This role is not open to visa sponsorship.

Location: Lynchburg VA / Richmond VA

Your Role

As an Application Development Manager, you will support Genworth’s top strategic priorities by working with the QUEST quoting application. You will coordinate the QUEST Kanban team as an Intent Manager (15%-25% of your time) and collaborate with other SCRUM teams on business solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Act as the Intent Manager for the QUEST Kanban team, planning and prioritizing upcoming work requests from other SCRUM teams and business partners.
  • Analyze changes needed by QUEST to provide the business solutions required by the SCRUM teams.
  • Design, code, document, and test solutions that fit the overall technical architecture while ensuring acceptance criteria are met and risks are mitigated.
  • Support the software development lifecycle, including test planning, defect resolution, and system health activities.
  • Follow change control procedures to implement solutions.
  • Perform administrative duties such as participating in Agile ceremonies, responding to correspondence, updating tickets, and contributing to change-management activities.

What you bring

  • 4‑year college degree or equivalent experience with strong Java programming skills and production support experience, preferably in insurance/finance.
  • 6+ years of professional experience in technology or insurance.
  • 6+ years of application development experience with Java + Java tools (JDK), Oracle, JBoss, Apache Web Server, Spring, JSON, and APIs.
  • 3+ years of experience coordinating deliveries from junior developers, communicating with stakeholders, and assisting with prioritization and sequencing of deliverables.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a detail‑oriented mindset for understanding complex business logic and system impact.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams on complex systems, with strong problem‑solving and results‑oriented mindset.
  • Good communication skills and ability to manage concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, and willingness to adapt to new technologies and ways of working.

Additional Qualifications

  • Practical knowledge of LTC insurance products and premiums.
  • Knowledge of additional Java frameworks, including Spring Boot and React.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban).
  • Cloud and cloud migration experience.
