This role represents the top of the engineering career path and combines hands on engineering, architectural ownership, and technical leadership across a broad portfolio of internally developed applications and thirdparty integrations.The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineer who leads through expertise, sets engineering standards, and partners closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions.This position is Atlanta-based only.Principal AccountabilitiesTechnical Leadership & ArchitectureOwn and evolve enterprise application architecture, engineering standards, and design principlesLead architectural design for complex, cross system and mission critical initiativesServe as the final technical escalation point for complex engineering challengesOwn the technical health, lifecycle, and integration strategy for internal applications and third party systemsProvide technical leadership for API design and third party integrationsHands On EngineeringRemain actively engaged in hands on software engineering, including:Solution design and critical path developmentCode reviews and modernization effortsRefactoring to reduce technical debtLead development of high risk or high impact components when senior expertise is requiredEngineering Excellence, Delivery and SecurityEstablish and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality gatesOwn and improve CI/CD pipelines supporting build, test, and deployment workflowsDefine and lead the adoption of AI assisted engineering tools as part of modern development and delivery practices to improve code quality, delivery efficiency, and developer productivity, while establishing guardrails and best practices for responsible use.Ensure engineering practices align with Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps based toolingAccountable for embedding secure by design principles into engineering standards, architecture decisions, and CI/CD processes to proactively identify and mitigate software vulnerabilities in partnership with security and infrastructure teamsPromote secure, reliable, and observable systems across all environmentsPlanning, Reporting & CollaborationProvide clear initiative level status reporting on progress, risks, and dependenciesPartner with IT leadership to shape multi year technical roadmapsCollaborate with infrastructure, security, data, and business teams to deliver integrated solutionsMentorship & Talent DevelopmentServe as the senior engineering leader for onboarding and offboarding decisionsPartner with HR to review resumes and select candidates with the right technical skillsetsDesign and maintain technical assessments used in the hiring processDefine onboarding plans, growth expectations, and a structured continuing education approachMentor engineers through design reviews, coaching, and technical guidanceQualificationsMinimum Requirements:Atlanta-based candidates onlyMin.

12 years of progressive software engineering experienceUndergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical disciplineDemonstrated success in senior, staff, or principal level engineering rolesProven experience designing and evolving complex, enterprise scale systemsStrong experience with:Experience with Scrum and/or Agile and SDLC methodologiesMicrosoft SQL (database design and performance optimization)Backend development using Node.js, TypeScript, and.NET CoreModern frontend frameworks (Vue.js preferred)Microsoft Azure–based application development and deploymentExperience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practicesExperience with C#, GIT, Serverless Architecture, and RESTful APIsKnowledge of development standards and best practicesStrong systems thinking and problem solving capabilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical disciplineMicrosoft Azure certifications aligned with enterprise application development and operations, such as:Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect ExpertMicrosoft Certified: Azure Developer AssociateMicrosoft Certified: DevOps Engineer ExpertExperience leading architecture or platform decisions in a Microsoft Azure–centric environmentDemonstrated experience modernizing legacy systems and guiding cloud adoption initiativesExperience operating in regulated, security-conscious, or compliance-driven environmentsAngel Oak provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
