Senior Software Engineer

Salary: $112,800 - 140,000 per year

• Significant experience in software engineering and change management
• Strong expertise in COBOL and mainframe policy administration
• Background in end-to-end life insurance technology and policy administration
• Experience leading or giving technical direction to COBOL engineering teams
• Working knowledge of both waterfall and Agile/Scrum delivery methods
• Ability to simplify complex, large-scale system changes and evaluate total cost of ownership
• Strong agile mindset with an interest in modernization, innovation, and continuous integration
• Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with technical and business stakeholders
• Masters degree in Computer Science, or an acceptable mix of education, technical training, certifications, and extensive relevant experience
• Ability and willingness to work onsite in Fremont, MI upon starting

• Perform hands-on COBOL development for end-to-end life insurance policy administration
• Work closely with a team of 7–10 engineers in a fast-paced agile environment
• Modernize legacy mainframe applications and help transition batch processing toward real-time capability
• Integrate policy administration systems with new business, self-service, payments, workflow, document generation, general ledger, reinsurance, and other platforms
• Advance the architecture using technologies such as DB2, z/OS Connect, IBM MQ, and modern web tools
• Own assigned development and production support work through completion
• Manage product and sprint backlogs as needed to deliver software updates
• Estimate new development effort and help prioritize technology demand
• Set an example by contributing to an agile, innovative, and solutions-oriented engineering culture
• Maintain strong data security, technical, and regulatory standards
