Senior Software Engineer (Contract) Java / Spring Boot / Kafka / AWS

Location: Mountain View, CA (Hybrid / Remote Flexibility)
Contract Type: Long-Term Contract (6 12 months, possible extension)

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Contract) with 6+ years of experience in backend engineering. The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience with Java , Spring Boot , Kafka , PostgreSQL , and AWS . You'll collaborate with Intuit's core engineering teams to design and develop microservices and data streaming platforms that are reliable, scalable, and cloud-native.

esponsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain microservices using Java and Spring Boot
• Build event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka for real-time data streaming
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries for performance and scalability
• Develop, deploy, and operate services on AWS (ECS, Lambda, S3, CloudFormation, CloudWatch)
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and QA to deliver robust backend solutions
• Ensure systems meet security, reliability, and performance standards
• Participate in code reviews , architecture discussions, and mentoring where needed
• Contribute to automation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code setups

Qualifications

Required:

• 6+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong hands-on expertise with Java , Spring Boot , and microservice architectures
• Deep understanding of Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, streaming, schema registry)
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL (database design, performance tuning, optimization)
• Strong working knowledge of AWS cloud services (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, etc.)
• Experience with Docker , Kubernetes , and CI/CD pipelines
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable code in agile environments

Nice to Have:

• Familiarity with monitoring & observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience with API design and distributed system scaling
• Exposure to FinTech or enterprise-grade data systems

Contract Details

• Duration: 6 12 months (extension or conversion possible)
• Location: Mountain View, CA (hybrid preferred, remote options considered)
• Engagement: W2 or C2C
• Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience
