This senior role involves owning significant platform capabilities, driving architectural decisions, and establishing technical standards that enable our entire engineering organization. You'll work on transformational platform initiatives while mentoring other engineers and ensuring our technology foundation scales with business growth.We can only consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Charlotte, NC office.Key Responsibilities:Design and implement mission-critical platform features and foundational systemsShape platform architecture through both written specifications and hands-on code implementationBuild and maintain frameworks that make software development easier for application teamsDrive AssetMark towards target platform architecture through strategic technical decisionsAuthor technical design documents for complex platform capabilitiesCreate enterprise-scale solutions for data management, API governance, and service integrationImplement large-scale refactoring initiatives to improve platform code quality and performanceBuild canonical source-of-truth data systems with robust governance and compliance capabilitiesDesign and implement standardized patterns for service integration and cross-application workflowsEstablish and enforce API design principles, versioning strategies, and governance modelsImprove platform development practices and processes across multiple teamsTeach other engineers effective platform development and code review techniquesHelp establish platform community practices around secure coding, data privacy, and design standardsBalance technical debt with platform evolution while maintaining enterprise reliabilityCoordinate platform work across multiple development teams and resolve complex technical dependenciesEnsure platform architecture meets stringent security, compliance, and regulatory requirementsDesign systems that support business growth and can scale to enterprise demandsWork with data governance policies and master data management principlesSupport technology modernization initiatives and legacy system transformationCollaborate with enterprise architecture and security teams on strategic platform decisionsKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesDeep expertise in platform engineering, API design, and service-oriented architecturesAdvanced understanding of cloud-native development, microservices, and distributed systemsStrong background in data architecture, enterprise integration patterns, and event-driven systemsExperience with performance optimization, scalability engineering, and system reliabilityKnowledge of DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and modern deployment practicesUnderstanding of enterprise security, compliance, and regulatory requirementsProven ability to drive architectural decisions and influence technical directionStrong mentorship skills and experience leading complex technical initiativesQualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field5-10 years of software engineering experience with significant platform engineering focusProven experience coding in Java is requiredExperience designing and implementing enterprise-scale platform systemsTrack record of leading complex technical initiatives and mentoring other engineersExperience with regulated industries, preferably financial servicesStrong background in API governance, data architecture, and enterprise integrationWhy Join AssetMark?Lead development of foundational platform capabilities that power the entire AssetMark ecosystemDrive architectural decisions that shape the future of wealth management technology infrastructureWork on transformational initiatives in a growth-oriented, private equity-backed environmentMentor engineering talent and establish technical standards across the organizationSignificant impact on technology strategy and platform evolution in the fintech spaceAssetMark values diversity of thought and background and is committed to building an inclusive workplace. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered.
