Senior Software Engineer – Capital Markets

Location: New York, NY, 10172

Employment Type: Full Time

Anticipated salary range: $158,000 – $205,000. Eligibility for an annual discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits portfolio.

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in system and software design to join our team. This full-stack role emphasizes backend development using C# and .NET and focuses on distributed systems architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of complex software systems supporting trade lifecycle processing.
  • Implement distributed computing solutions using messaging technologies.
  • Build on top of the C# MassTransit framework to ensure system reliability and consistency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software in a fast-paced environment.
  • Own projects end-to-end, from requirements gathering to deployment and monitoring.
  • Contribute to system design reviews, code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.

Tech Stack

  • Languages & Frameworks: C#, .NET (Core and Framework), ASP.NET, React
  • Messaging & Orchestration: C# MassTransit, RabbitMQ, Kafka
  • Architecture: Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, Distributed Systems
  • Tools: Git, CI/CD pipelines, Nomad, MongoDB

Qualifications and Skills

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proven experience designing and building distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of messaging patterns, sagas, and transactional consistency.
  • Experience with full-stack development (React, Angular, or similar is a plus).
  • Familiarity with financial derivatives or trade processing systems is a strong plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.

Additional Requirements

SMBC follows a hybrid workforce model. Employees are expected to work from home and from an SMBC office. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Certain roles may require full in-office attendance depending on regulatory requirements.
