CBOC Social Worker

The CBOC Social Worker functional statement is consistent with the description of the GS-12 Social Worker as described in the VA Handbook 5005/23, Part II, Appendix G39 Social Worker Qualifications Standard. The CBOC Social Worker has experience that demonstrates the possession of advanced practice skills and judgement in excess of two years of specialized social work practice in psycho-social theory driven therapy for psychiatric and behavioral disorders as listed in the DSM-5 and also delivers evidenced based psychotherapies when requested by the client or clinically indicated for treatment. The needs of these veterans include general mental health disorders, trauma related symptoms and disorders, acute crisis situations, performing risk assessment, and addressing multiple areas of risk to include suicidal thoughts, ideations, and plans. The CBOC social worker will provide safety planning and clinical services to veterans identified as having a high risk for suicide through assessment or by a high risk for suicide flag. The CBOC social worker is licensed by the State of Idaho for independent clinical social work practice at the advanced practice level which included the appropriate ASWB clinical examination. The CBOC social worker has additional post-masters training to provide suicide risk assessments and is available for emergency consultations within the CBOC facilities served by this social worker. The CBOC social worker should function as a member of the CBOC(s) they are serving. They should provide clinical expertise and education in support of primary care. They should manage incoming consultations and request for services from the primary care teams as well as from the community. Further, they should provide the role of education and advocacy to CBOC staff on the needs of veterans with multiple mental health disorders to assure the best possible treatment plan and outcomes for veterans served in these clinics The CBOC social worker contributes to the clinical knowledge in the profession and develops relationships in the community by providing presentations at conferences, at the local educational institutions, and at local agencies on a variety of clinical issues. The social worker provides consultation and guidance to colleagues both at the VA and in the community regarding veteran's specific needs and resources. The social worker also coordinates with military and veteran's organizations to assure access to services for veteran eligible for VA health care.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8am-4:30p

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior (work experience) or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
