The Senior Safety Services Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Risk Manager - Safety and Loss Control and is responsible for performing a high level of compliance-related duties, which include overseeing and managing the County's Ergonomic Program and implementing other safety compliance programs; investigating workplace injuries and illnesses; analyzing loss control data and providing recommendations on prevention; providing County-wide safety program and training development oversight and implementation; and performing other related work as required. The Senior Safety Services Specialist may provide lead direction to Safety Services Specialists and clerical staff.

Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the applicant process.
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in safety, industrial engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience: Thirty-six (36) months of full-time responsible experience in an environmental, health and safety administrative or staff capacity, performing duties in areas such as EH&S program development and administration, occupational injury investigation and prevention, vehicle accident prevention and safety training.
Substitution: Additional experience of the type noted above and possession of a Safety or related certificate from an accredited college or a university may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. One (1) additional year of experience of the type noted above may be substituted for the required academic major.

- Developing, implementing, and maintaining standardized safety training to include instructional presentations and materials; providing on-site, classroom style, or online training and instruction on a variety of risk management and safety related topics and providing administrative, technical, and training support as needed
- Participating, and assisting in the organization of departmental safety committee meetings and quarterly County-wide safety coordinator meetings
- Assisting with Cal-OSHA and third-party regulators in correspondence as needed
- Performing various assessments including safety inspections, site visits, and job hazard analyses; assisting in recommendation and implementation of corrective action
- Traveling independently to various locations throughout Contra Costa County to fulfill departmental responsibilities
- Providing lead direction to Safety Services Specialists and clerical staff
