Role Description
Arcadis seeks a Senior Resident Engineer to join the team in California to perform a wide variety of professional engineering work in either a field or office setting. The Resident Engineer reviews the progress of the work to ensure compliance with the contract documents. This involves progressive monitoring of materials and methods used, inspection of finished products before acceptance, assurance of appropriate measurements, payments, and completion of all project documentation in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. The RE is also responsible for proactively reviewing the contract documents to identify, anticipate, and prepare any change orders needed to resolve conflicts and recommend improvements.
Role Accountabilities
- Ensures the safety of Construction Management employees, State employees, and Contractor employees, as well as the traveling public by observing the contractor’s operations and traffic conditions, making recommendations, and taking corrective action when necessary.
- Review contractor operations for compliance with CAL OSHA regulations.
- Provides directions to staff to ensure complete, accurate, and timely contract records, pertaining to construction progress, job expenditures, budget programs, and work order balances, are maintained in accordance with the State and Federal regulations and laws.
- Plans, reviews and assigns work of subordinate field or construction field office personnel.
- Reviews construction processes and engineering layouts.
- Reviews project activities with client and contractor’s field supervision, resolving disputes and other daily issues.
- Oversees materials testing activities.
- Reviews daily inspection reports and other project documentation.
- Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
- Exercises responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adheres to Arcadis’ Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 15 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
- At least 5 years working as a Resident Engineer on Caltrans Highway improvement projects of similar size and complexity.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field (e.g., Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology).
- Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Experience as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager on a State Highway System project of at least $30 million.
- Prior experience with construction/operations on a State Highway.
- A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents.
- A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g., Caltrans).
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Benefits and Compensation
The salary range for this position is $275,000 – $305,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
