The Senior Rail & Transit Engineer will perform a variety of consulting activities, providing technical support to all aspects of rail and transit projects. In this role, you will provide technical consulting services for high-performance mechanical or electrical systems and serve as the technical lead supporting various aspects of the rail vehicle.
nThe position requires experience with rail vehicle engineering, maintenance, and operation, as well as a network of industry contacts and history of industry association participation. Good writing and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential.
nDetailed Role and Responsibilities:
nResponsibilities may involve any or all the following:
nProvide rail and vehicle engineering, support to a variety of consulting assignments that include light rail, medium rail and advanced rapid transit systems
nLead the rail vehicle engineering discipline team and provide expert support on design, integration, manufacturing, and failure analysis for mechanical, structural and/or electrical/electronic systems.
nSupport both office and field-based activities with in-depth understanding of rail and vehicle systems, including technology assessments, preparation of technical specifications, rail and vehicle O&M requirements and oversight, system updates and overhauls, contract documents, evaluating vendors, design reviews, problem resolutions, project evaluations, compliance with prescribed technical and contract requirements.
nSupport field implementation, assess performance of newly furnished fleets and systems, from different suppliers, for compatibility, functionality, and other compliances.
nAssess contract performance and compliance, make, and implement recommendations.
nStay informed of the rail and transit consulting business, technological needs, and trends and industry best practices and standards. Be cognizant of larger business, technological and regulatory trends that can or will affect the rail and transit industry.
nAssist in mentoring and guiding junior engineers and contribute to a culture of learning and technical growth.
nCoordinate and develop positive relationships with clients, contractors, and their staff.
nWork with other Jacobs staff, client and 3rd party consultants and contractors to deliver high-quality projects, promote positive, professional employee relations.
nParticipate and represent Jacobs in meetings with client and outside contractors, assist with and participate in presentations and public hearings/reviews relative to assigned projects.
nEnsure that Jacobs principles, policies, integrity, and procedures are consistently practiced.
nPerform other assignments and duties as requested.
nSubstantial professional years of relevant experience in the rail and transit industry, with a proven track record of technical expertise and successful project delivery for major rail and/or transit systems and/or technology projects.
nA bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline from an accredited college or university.
nProfessional Engineer license, preferred but not required
nExperience with all types of rail and transit vehicle design, maintenance, and operation, specification development, fleet procurement, including testing and commissioning.
nStrong understanding of the rolling stock business, technological needs, and trends, as well as larger business, technological, and regulatory trends that can affect the rail and transit industry.
nDemonstrated ability to produce high quality deliverables with attention to detail.
nExcellent problem-solving, judgment, decision-making, and analytical skills.
nStrong attention to detail, excellent communication, organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
nAbility to work independently as well as within a team, and to work with all levels within a given organization (internal or external).
