Job Overview

The Senior Radiation Therapist will supervise technical and clinical staff, provide direct patient care, and serve in a supervisory role within assigned office(s). The incumbent will ensure the competency of the team and optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct technical staff, including radiation therapists, nurses, and medical assistants.
• Delegate responsibilities to ensure accuracy of treatment setups and timely patient care.
• Maintain competence in simulation and treatment delivery, overseeing patient simulation and treatment of patients receiving radiation therapy.
• Monitor and ensure technical accuracy of treatment setups and proper use of the Record & Verify System.
• Participate in specialty areas such as IMRT, IGRT, stereotactic radiotherapy and radiosurgery, total body irradiation, and HDR programs.
• Provide instructional oversight for radiation therapy technology students and assist in clinical instruction and evaluation.
• Coordinate scheduling of patients and clinical staff, participating in chart rounds, QA reviews, and technical/clinical staff meetings.
• Develop and implement quality assurance procedures, perform QA reviews of patient charts, and maintain compliance with department QA and continuous quality improvement programs.
• Monitor and document equipment status, machine downtime, machine problem reports, and QA for treatment machines and simulation equipment.
• Ensure supply levels, order supplies, and follow purchasing policies.
• Train new staff, conduct ongoing education, and oversee annual clinical staff evaluations.
• Assist in hiring processes, including interviews and selection, and help maintain staff credentials.
• Generate weekly, monthly, and annual statistical reports for administration.
• Help ensure continuity of clinical leadership by designating an acting Senior Therapist during absences.
• Monitor staff break times, attendance records, and oversee vacation and sick time.
• Participate in regulatory and compliance activities, reporting employee and patient accidents, and engaging in preparedness initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years experience as a Radiation Therapist.
• Graduate of an approved School for Radiation Therapy.
• ARRT Registered Technologist (T).
• State licensed (mandatory where required).
• In good standing with all CE and license requirements.
• CPR certified.
• Computer literate, with experience using Record & Verify Applications, Treatment Delivery Applications, Electronic Medical Records, OWAN DTS, and MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Leadership experience within a radiation therapy department.
• Active membership in professional organizations, including participation in committees or task forces.
