Job Summary
Assists with dosimetric calculations, treatment planning, quality assurance and data entry into the system. Provides radiation in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Supports the department director in day‑to‑day operations, serves as a technical specialist on daily tasks and cases, models/mentors and trains staff on technical skills.
Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in radiation oncology or equivalent (some certifications require Bachelor's): Preferred
- Master’s Degree: Preferred
- Three years’ radiation therapy experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy (ARRT‑T) and Certification of Therapeutic Radiology Technology (RTT): Required
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred
- ARRT‑Radiation Therapy (ARRT‑T): Required
- Therapeutic Radiologic Technology Certification (TRT): Required
Department Specific License/Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
Essential Functions
- Delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy by checking the prescription, diagnosis chart, and patient identification; explains procedures to patient, means of communication during treatment, and basic treatment procedure; delivers prescribed daily dose to patient, observing radiation safety measures for patient and personnel.
- Prepares room and equipment for patient according to prescription or simulation regarding immobilization devices, transfers patient to the treatment couch, and attends to the patient’s special needs.
- Observes patients for unusual reactions and for signs and symptoms of developing complications during treatment, reporting reactions and complications to supervisor and department physician.
- Maintains a variety of records, including daily treatment records; reviews patient charts to eliminate errors and to ensure that blood counts and special reports are properly recorded.
- Provides clinical supervision and evaluates students’ practical ability to perform procedures.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
