In this position you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering a major project or projects through all phases of development.
You will work with staff, give directions and resolve architectural problems. You will establish and maintain budgets, schedules, and monitor adherence of terms of contract expectations. You will have autonomy to engage with clients and authority to direct, control, and monitor all project activities. Successful candidates will have strong multi-tasking skills and ability to oversee two to three project managers and multiple project teams.This position is located in HMC's Los Angeles, California office.
The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Mondays and Fridays.Responsibilities:Coach, mentor, and provide performance-enhancing feedback of assigned team membersResolve issues related to team members and consultantsCollaborate with appropriate staff to meet goals and objectives of projectDirect overall verbal and graphic communication of complex project concepts to clients, public agencies, and project team members, and be primary point of contact for all client issuesResolve "lost opportunity" issues, including staffing reduction, review of contractual obligations, and scope of serviceSupervise and manage multiple clients and project managers for all phases of projects.Ability to supervise up to 6 – 12 employeesWrite RFP'S and negotiate contracts and fees with clients and consultantsAbility to write and edit specificationsWrite articles for professional publications of architecture and construction industryPrepare/edit marketing proposals and participate in interviewReview and assist staff in setting budgets, goals, and preparing work plans that clearly define their expectations, and take appropriate action when they are met and when they are not metReview and resolve any issues related to staff and consultantsMonitor staffing models to projected workloads to meet expected project timelines and profitability projectionsResolve collection of aged accounts and any financial issues with clientsResponsible in collaboration with design team for quality of project design and documents through all phases of projectsReview documents to ensure quality, coordination, and compliance with the requirements of deliverables and client standards in all phasesResolve plan check and approval issues with the agencies and clientsOversee and resolve issues during construction phase of all work under their supervisionRequirements:Architectural degree from an accredited university or equivalent demonstrated proficiencyMinimum of ten (10) years' experience in production and coordination of documents in all phases of architectural practice and in management of public k-12 projectsDisplay willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions, includes appropriate people in decision-making process; make timely decisionsAbility to professionally communicate both verbally and in writing to give assignments to office support staff, consultants, and vendorsAbility to correspond effectively and professionally with agencies, consultants, and clientsAbility to write and edit specificationsSet goals, prioritize, and plan work activities for self-management and use time efficientlyAbility to analyze profitability, revenue, margins, bill rates, and utilization across projectsKnowledgeable of daylighting, stormwater management, and commissioningAbility to market project capability through client interviews, public presentations, and professional publicationsThe salary range for this position is $105,682 to $158,086The actual salary offered for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate's qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
