Responsibilities
- Reviewing proposal specifications and drawings and attending pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
- Proficiently preparing estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, and equipment costs and applying them to the complete scope of work
- Reviewing/researching historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compiling summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates
- Incorporating historical data into unit and man-hour figures
- Proficiently maintaining files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
- Creating, sending, and managing subcontractor requests for proposal
- Reviewing design options and recommending the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
- Following awarded contracts as assigned may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, etc.
- Performing other duties as directed
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college, technical school or university in Engineering or Construction Management
- A minimum of 5 years of heavy civil, heavy highway estimating experience involving concrete and asphalt paving, road widening, drainage lines, road reconstruction, bridge work, and roadway dirt work.
- A minimum of 5 years of hard bid estimating
- A minimum of 5 years of estimator and/or a combination of project engineer and estimating experience working on or estimating heavy civil concrete structures, roadway, bridge and dirt excavation, heavy civil projects of $5 million to $30 million.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in calculating area, volume, quantities, etc. in performing take-offs, control, and material pricing.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in estimating & scheduling software (Primavera, Viewpoint, Heavy Bid, Heavy Job, etc.), Internet and Project Management software; Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
- The ability to pass criminal and driving background checks
