Senior Project Engineer – Battery Energy Storage

My client, a leading renewable energy developer and EPC, is hiring a Senior Project Engineer to manage large-scale BESS projects in the Midwest. Based in Chicago, you will work with MISO and PJM interconnection teams, state regulators, and local permitting authorities to deliver industry-leading energy storage facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the design of BESS systems from initial concept through commissioning.
- Manage compliance with MISO/PJM interconnection requirements and Illinois electrical codes.
- Direct technical reviews of engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor submittals.
- Support procurement in evaluating and selecting equipment suppliers.
- Coordinate construction support, QA/QC processes, and technical problem-solving on site.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers to enhance team capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years in power systems or renewable energy engineering, with 5+ years in BESS.
- PE license in Illinois or ability to obtain.
- Knowledge of high-voltage interconnection, inverter technology, and BMS systems.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across Illinois and neighboring states.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MISO and PJM market integration.
- Track record delivering large-scale BESS projects on time and on budget.
