Senior Product Engineer – Job Summary
Mueller Water Products, Inc. is hiring a Senior Product Engineer for our new facility in Kimball, TN. The role provides engineering support for product lines, implements improvements, and ensures compliance with industry standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for assigned product lines, implementing improvements to better meet customer and company needs.
- Produce SolidWorks, Creo or AutoCAD working drawings according to requirements, ensuring timely schedule completion.
- Track engineering projects and metrics.
- Develop engineering and quality control tests and metrics for production reliability.
- Use applicable industry specifications to develop products.
- Coordinate all activities with approval agencies for new or modified products and the associated follow‑up activities.
- Work with internal and external customers, such as manufacturing personnel, customer service, and the sales force to provide product support on problems related to products, processes, application, and installation of products.
- Communicate and engage customers regarding design changes, manufacturing difficulties caused by product design, and cost‑reduction ideas requiring product alterations and/or manufacturing improvements.
- Generate Bill of Materials and Process Sheets for assigned product lines.
- Remain informed of the company’s product offerings within the assigned area and support leadership for key manufacturing initiatives, including Kaizen events, standard work events, value‑stream map events, safety improvements, capital projects, and labor‑efficiency improvements.
- Develop and maintain manuals, procedures, and practices required for ISO certification maintenance and maintain good working relationships with approved agencies such as UL, ULC, FM, NSF, and ISO.
- Support Product Management/Engineering through development and clarification of customer needs relating to the product life cycle such as materials, BOMs, submittal drawings, configurations, new product development, testing, and product maintenance.
- Identify, document, and present cost‑savings ideas with justification and ROI calculations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Strong working knowledge and experience in Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
- Outstanding PC/Systems knowledge and skills including 3D CAD software and PLM databases.
- Familiarity with programming and logic sequencing.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers, and outside professionals.
- Knowledge of manufacturing situations, quality standards, product development, CAD/CAM, technical specifications, and project management.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Travel may be required for training purposes.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or a similar technical degree.
- 7 to 10 years of product engineering and/or manufacturing environment experience.
Preferred
- Direct experience in valves, controls, or similar applicable industrial products.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
Physical Requirements
- Remain in a stationary or standing position for prolonged periods.
- Perform fine or gross manipulation with wrists, hands, or fingers.
- Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, and ear plugs in an industrial environment.
- Communicate with others in person, via phone, or computer.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
- Occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel.
