General Purpose:
Responsible for process engineering with a strong focus on process safety, leading the creation of deliverables for engineering and construction projects. Typical industries include chemical, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, minerals & metals. This role collaborates across Engineering & Design as well as with McCarl's construction and maintenance teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create process engineering deliverables, including design, analysis, and optimization of industrial processes in the heavy industrial sector.
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), material and energy balances, and other process engineering deliverables.
- Develop and revise engineering design procedures and technical specifications.
- Possess a working knowledge of process control systems and process safety design.
- Participate in process hazard analyses (PHA) including HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL assessments and take ownership of resulting action items.
- Provide technical guidance on process safety regulations and best practices (e.g., OSHA, PSM, EPA, RMP).
- Review and advise on process design to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations.
- Develop sketches and coordinate the completion of associated models with the design team.
- Lead Design Reviews and Lesson Learned sessions.
- Liaison with other discipline engineers to ensure design and engineering conformance to the process.
- Assist clients' technical teams in the definition and development of essential process engineering work, design approach and design criteria for projects.
- Provide cost estimating support for process engineering proposals (hours, quantities, scope definition, etc.).
- Provide technical support for construction or operating sites, as needed.
- Monitor and report as required on the status of process engineering and safety projects.
- Effectively communicate and project the core values of McCarl's.
- Maintain effective interpersonal communications at all levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering or a related engineering discipline with experience in industrial processes and design for heavy industry.
- Demonstrated experience in process safety, including PHA participation, PSM implementation, and compliance.
- Working knowledge of industry standard design practices, good mechanical aptitude, and general knowledge of engineering principles.
- Understanding of standards and specifications (e.g., ASME, API, NFPA, AIChE, CCPS, OSHA, EPA).
- Ability to attain and promote good customer relationships (both internal and external).
- Proficient in the use of process simulation software or willing to learn would be a plus.
- Ability to safely visit sites to walk down scope and meet with internal and external stakeholders.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office. Experience in CAD software would be a plus.
- Possess (or ability to obtain) OSHA 10.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent written and presentation skills and a comprehensive understanding of the English language.
