About Zephyrs Ai

Zephyrs Ai builds precision positioning and navigation sensors for autonomous systems that must operate where GPS is jammed, spoofed, or unavailable. We are founder-led, deliberately small, and building for paying customers. Product and architecture details are shared with candidates under NDA as the interview process advances.

The role

This is not a traditional embedded software position. You will become one of the earliest technical leaders responsible for building and evolving a high-performance embedded sensing platform. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across multiple layers of an embedded system—from hardware bring-up and low-level drivers to real-time signal processing and system integration, low-level control of an advanced RF front end, platform software, real-time control loops, and the interfaces our customers integrate against.

What you will own

  • Bring-up of new hardware: boot chain, BSP, memory, clocks, peripherals, and the debug environment
  • Register-level control of an advanced RF transceiver subsystem: drivers, configuration, gain and temperature compensation, calibration management
  • Real-time closed-loop control at the system level: state machines, tracking loops, recovery logic
  • Platform software on a modern heterogeneous SoC (multi-core Arm plus DSP): embedded Linux/RTOS, drivers, inter-core communication, DMA, logging, build and release
  • System integration of signal-processing components, and the measurement and status interfaces our customers consume
  • Host and vehicle integration interfaces and the reference integration
  • Locked, certifiable release builds for regulatory testing, with disciplined documentation and software provenance
  • Engineering foundations: repositories, CI, coding and documentation standards, and technical mentorship as the team grows

What you bring

  • 7+ years of embedded software/firmware for complex electronic systems, with deep C (and working C++) across bare metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux
  • Board bring-up experience on new hardware, working from schematics, with strong lab habits (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG)
  • Heterogeneous SoC depth on Arm plus DSP or FPGA-fabric platforms (Zynq, TI, NXP, or similar): BSP and driver development, inter-processor communication
  • Register-level control of complex mixed-signal or RF peripherals over SPI/I2C (transceivers, data converters, sensor front ends)
  • Real-time closed-loop control implemented in firmware
  • The discipline to work from written specifications and produce documentation that survives an audit
  • Ownership temperament: you want one system, whole, and you finish things

Nice to have

  • Phased-array or beamforming front-end control; radar, sonar, EW, or Software-defined radio (SDR), precision RF sensing systems, mmWave familiarity and RF fundamentals (link budget, calibration)
  • Robotics or autonomous systems
  • Small-company or founding experience with end-to-end product ownership

Work authorization and export control

  • This position requires access to technology subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship, and must be U.S. persons as defined in 22 CFR 120.62 (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).
