Senior Principal Scientist, Attribute Sciences Biophysical Characterization, Analytical OperationsReporting to Senior Director, Attribute Sciences, the Senior Principal Scientist, Attribute Sciences Biophysical Characterization, Analytical Operations will lead a multi-disciplinary team that develops and utilizes state-of-the-art biophysical tools to assess product quality attributes that help guide process development and product knowledge of viral vector-based gene delivery platforms and T cell therapies.In this role, the ideal candidate will lead the strategy for development of advanced biophysical analytics capabilities in Analytical Development, primarily Mass Spectrometry and extending to other technologies including Dynamic Light Scattering and Analytical Ultracentrifugation, among others, to understand the physical and chemical properties of vector and T cells. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must have extensive expertise in biophysical technologies to support process development, strategic thinking, business acumen, as well as excellent leadership skills.Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Guide the development strategy for the use of mass spectrometry techniques used to assess viral vector and cell therapy final product attributesDevelop capabilities for in-house biophysical characterization of viral vectors (e.g., Dynamic Light Scattering, Sedimentation-Velocity Analytical Ultracentrifugation, Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis) to enhance viral vector product understanding.Supervise and develop scientists/analysts within Attributes SciencesDevelop a high functioning team that is integrated in AD and cross-functionally to support business needsSupport team members, hold them accountable for performance, coach/mentor as well as provide performance reviews of team membersEnhance team capabilities to promote a diverse and complimentary analytical skill set to further process and product understandingWork collaboratively with Cell and Vector Attribute Sciences teams to inform product characterization and product knowledge strategies to advance pipeline programsStay current with analytical technical platforms, cell and gene therapy industry best practices, as well as cutting edge innovations to support the development of cell therapy productsQualificationsPh.D. in Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Molecular Biology or related discipline with 8+ years of industry experience or M.S. degree (M.S.) with 10+ years of industry experienceAdvanced knowledge of cell biology, cancer biology, and/or immunology preferredExtensive hands-on experience on the use of mass spectrometry for proteomics applicationsExperience performing biophysical analysis (e.g., Dynamic Light Scattering, Sedimentation-Velocity Analytical Ultracentrifugation, Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis) in scientific or technical environments to drive business solutionsProficiency in mass spectrometry and proteomics data analysis tools and methodologies, including interpretation and statistical analysis on large datasetsStrong scientific writing and presentation skillsAbility to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsHighly collaborative with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsSelf-motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to accept temporary responsibilities outside of initial job descriptionComfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal directionDemonstrated leadership ability in pharmaceutical manufacturing of biotechnology products, cell therapy products, analytical method development, and process developmentAgile mindset and ability to adjust workload based upon changing prioritiesAbility to work in, lead and foster cross-functional, collaborative teamsExperience supporting, developing, and mentoring staff and creating inclusive, high-performing teamsAbility to foster an organization that demonstrates integrity, accountability, teamwork, and excellencePeople Leader Accountabilities:•Create Inclusion - knowing the business value of diverse teams, modeling inclusion, and embedding the value of diversity in the way they manage their teams.•Develop Talent - understand the skills, experience, aspirations and potential of their employees and coach them on current performance and future potential. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
