Senior/Principal Controls & Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Sullivan, MO / Orange County, CA

Path: Full-Time

Infinity Miles is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Controls & Embedded Software Engineer to lead the development of advanced control systems, embedded software, and real-time system architectures for our commercial SST platform.

Position Overview

In this role, you will define and develop control strategies and embedded software for advanced AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems operating in medium-voltage environments. You will drive system modeling, digital control development, firmware architecture, hardware integration, protection systems, communication interfaces, and validation activities that enable reliable operation of large-scale power infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience developing controls and embedded software for power electronics systems
  • Strong expertise in digital control of AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems
  • Strong programming skills in Embedded C/C++
  • Experience with RTOS-based embedded systems and real-time software development
  • Experience implementing real-time control algorithms on DSP, FPGA, MCU, or SoC platforms
  • Experience with TI C2000, Microchip, NXP, STM, Xilinx, Intel FPGA, or similar platforms
  • Experience with CAN, Modbus, EtherCAT, Ethernet, TCP/IP, or related communication protocols
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD workflows, software release management, and embedded software testing

Responsibilities

  • Develop control architectures for advanced AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems
  • Design and implement control algorithms for medium-voltage Solid-State Transformer platforms
  • Develop system models and perform stability, transient response, and dynamic performance analysis
  • Develop fault detection, fault isolation, protection, and recovery algorithms
  • Architect and develop embedded firmware for real-time control, monitoring, diagnostics, communication, and protection functions
  • Implement and optimize real-time control algorithms on embedded hardware platforms
  • Lead root‑cause investigations involving firmware, controls, sensing, communication, and power electronics subsystems
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the organization
