Senior Power Electronics EngineerSenior Power Electronics Engineer reporting to the Director of Power Systems in the SPARC team at CFS. Responsible to lead and coordinate electrical design projects and interface with cross-function stakeholders while ensuring a high-quality design release that meets specifications, project timelines within budget allocated.What you'll do:Design, model, simulate, analyze and validate power electronics circuits, magnetic components and control strategies for medium voltage power electronic converter systems (i.e. power supplies)Define components and develop technical requirements and specifications for power electronic converter systems and other electrical designsDevelop test methods to qualify design from concept through final testing and commissioning steps including troubleshooting of converter systemsContribute to cross-functional technical design activities to design, build and deliver electrical system designs for fusion powerCollaborate with cross-functional teams on critical procurement contracts & vendor coordination efforts of critical technical and other project milestonesDefine requirements and lead initial commissioning activities for power electronic systemsDocument design specifications, simulations and test results into engineering reportsWhat we're looking for:8+ years of related experience with Bachelor's degree (or) a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience with power electronics based systemsProven track record in design and development (system, protection, control & mechanical integration) of power electronics based electrical systemsKnowledge of various inverter circuit topologies and the benefits and limitationsExperience with modeling & simulation with analysis tools such as PLECS, PSPICE, MATLAB etcExperience with semiconductor devices (IGBT, MOSFET, etc.) and magnetic components (transformers, inductors etc.)Fundamental understanding of gate drive circuits, design and device protectionExperience with packaging design of power conversion equipment and thermal managementExperience with high power electrical equipment >10MWExperience with hands on testing of electrical components, sub-assemblies and systems in the laboratory and use of oscilloscopes and other measurement equipmentExcellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to conduct design reviews, organize / present results to both expert and non-technical audiencesResults driven and ability to embrace and convince stakeholders on a change in design direction in pursuit of a high-quality product releaseBonus points for:Master's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on Power ElectronicsExperience in practical application of electrical engineering skills to construction, manufacturing, testing and field installationsExperience with application of compliance standards to the designs (IEC, UL, CSA, NEC etc.)Experience in problem solving, root cause analysis and field containment actionsExperience with hands on prototype build, prototype testing and documentation of results is a plusExperience with scaling up independent systems to a larger system to meet higher power requirementsMust-have Requirements:Ability to lift up to 50lbsPerform activities such as standing, typing or sitting for extended periods of timeWillingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionallyWork in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics$110,000 - $185,000 a year Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
