In this role, you will use your experience and education to perform water and wastewater system hydraulic modeling and analyses, evaluate potential improvements to optimize system performance, and support the development of master plans.ResponsibilitiesUnderstand how surface water infrastructure, stormwater systems, water distribution systems, and/or wastewater collection systems operate and the facilities in each system.Develop surface water, drinking water, or wastewater models using commercially available software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or PCSWMM for surface water systems; InfoWater Pro, WaterGEMS, AquaTwin Water for water distribution systems; or PCSWMM, InfoWorks ICM, AquaTwin Sewer, or SewerGEMS for wastewater systems.Perform flow monitoring and/or field testing to collect data for model calibration.Calibrate models using measured or observed data.Use models to analyze system performance, identify deficiencies, and/or evaluate risk.Develop system improvements to address existing and future deficiencies.Provide reports detailing model development, calibration, analysis, and recommended improvements.Perform modeling to size or verify the size of new facilities for a design project.Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.Preferred RequirementsModeling and master planning for municipal water and wastewater utilitiesCreating, updating, and calibrating hydraulic modelsAnalyzing flow trends and forecasting future water demands and wastewater flowsAssessing and identifying water distribution deficiencies, wastewater capacity limitations, predicting future issues, and developing solutions for planning and design projectsPreparing feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and conceptual design documents for water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projectsDeveloping master plan documents and supporting materials and spreadsheets including geographic information system (GIS) maps and figures.Perform modeling and planning of water distribution, supply and transmission systems as well as wastewater collection systemsManage projects to achieve client goals within scope, schedule, and budget constraintsLead internal project teams and mentor junior staffCoordinate with clients and serve as the main point of contactEvaluate pump station hydraulicsPerform transient analyses for water systemsPrepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and conceptual design documentsManipulation and analysis of data using spreadsheets, tools, and GISPeriodic travel to project and client sites for data collection and meetingsAssist in technical portion of proposal preparation by developing work approach, schedule and level of effort for modeling and planning project pursuitsParticipate in client development activitiesParticipate in and contribute to BC's master planning and modeling practice, improving company resources and tools to improve quality and efficiencyPerform other duties and responsibilities as assignedMentorshipMay provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.Skills and CompetenciesSolid understanding of hydrologic and/or hydraulic principles and system operations.Proficient in using modeling software for calibration and analysis (e.g., InfoWater Pro, PCSWMM).Skilled in data collection, review, management, processing and analyses.Competent in data analyses and/or using geospatial tools (ArcGIS Pro) to support modeling workflows.Effective communication of technical results and recommendations in reports.ExperienceTypically, a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in hydraulic modeling or related field.Typically certified in the SMS Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies.Preferred ExperiencePE license strongly preferredAdvanced knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure hydraulics, operation, and master planningExperience managing projects and leading project teamsAbility to work effectively as a member of a teamMinimum 5 years of related experience in water hydraulic model development and calibration, with progressively increasing responsibility.Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare effective written documentsOrganizational and analytical skills with high attention to detailExperience with sewer collection infrastructure modeling and planning is preferredProficiency with modeling, transient analyses, data management, and related software packages (e.g., InfoWater, InfoWorks, InfoSurge, WaterGEMS, WaterHAMMER, EPANET, EPA-SWMM, ArcGIS, Excel, Power BI, etc.)Valid drivers license and good driving record requiredEducationA bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or related field or equivalent experience is required.Has achieved or is working towards achieving professional license.Preferred EducationM.S. degree preferredThe anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
