This role ensures all data inputs to the payroll cycle produce accurate payrolls and recordkeeping.
Work is primarily performed in Workday, our payroll software, in coordination with ADP, our payroll service provider. Success in this role requires a strong focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and consistent delivery against established deadlines.This is a remote opportunity within the United States.ResponsibilitiesProcess full-cycle in-house payroll for a multi-entity, multi-state organization (bi-weekly and semi-monthly), in compliance with federal, state, and local law; enter, maintain, and process information in the Workday payroll systemEnsure proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, retirement plans, and other withholdingsAdminister and audit all time and attendance activityAdminister and audit all garnishments, including related vendor managementCommunicate proactively across the organization to maintain deadlines and payroll data accuracyRespond to employee payroll inquiries via phone and the dedicated payroll email accountInvestigate and resolve payroll processing issues and questionsSupport reconciliations, payroll balancing, and tax activities, including W-2 processingFacilitate internal and external audits by providing records and documentation; review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reports to ensure accurate, on-time W-2 distributionIssue and reissue physical checks, replacement checks, or direct deposits as neededMaintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practicesQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED4+ years of payroll processing experience in a multi-state, matrixed organization, with strong emphasis on payroll compliance and auditingAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and chartsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions under time pressureStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt style and content for stakeholders with varying payroll literacyStrong customer service orientation, with the ability to support stakeholders across career levels and backgroundsPreferred QualificationsExperience working in a high-growth organization with continuous processing deadlinesProven relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholdersAPA Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or progress toward eitherExperience with Workday and/or ADP Smart Compliance for tax, wage payment, employment verification, and garnishment administrationThis position offers the opportunity to join a collegial, entrepreneurial firm committed to the personal and professional growth of its team members and to maintaining a positive, encouraging work environment where people enjoy working together.
