Sr. Optical Engineer

The hourly rate for this position is expected to be between $56.97 – $71.20 per hour, depending on geographic location, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Employment Type: Temporary, approximately 3 months (through December 2026). Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
Job Summary:
- Lead optical engineering efforts for a second prototype build of ophthalmic medical devices
- Provide technical guidance to the Optical Technician and broader engineering team
- Contribute to component selection and system design for diagnostic/therapeutic devices
- Develop work instructions, testing procedures, and validation protocols
- Design production tooling and test fixtures for performance and reliability
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, mechanical, and applied research teams
- Support transition of products from prototype through manufacturing handoff
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or related STEM field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in optical engineering or photonics
- Strong optical design, analysis, and testing experience
- Experience supporting product development from prototype through manufacturing
- Mechanical design experience (CAD, SolidWorks) a plus
- Familiarity with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax) preferred
- Experience in regulated environments (FDA QSR, ISO 13485) strongly preferred
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Self-starter capable of working autonomously in a lab environment
