Senior Operations Manager overseeing the operations of a Fulfillment Center functional area, including people management and development, process, safety, productivity, and achieving customer experience goals. Leads a dynamic team of Operations and Area Managers to drive operational excellence and build leadership bench strength within the center. Oversees a large workforce in a fast-paced, complex facility up to a million square feet.

This role serves as the face of the organization to employees and the local community. It offers potential for career growth as Amazon expands its global footprint.

Responsibilities

  • Owns and delivers the operational budget for the functional area, including safety, productivity, financial and labor planning, and operational goals for outbound or inbound operations.
  • Provides strategic long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months) including labor planning, rate forecasting, and peak season planning.
  • Drives continuous improvement projects to optimize operations and productivity; leads strategic projects with building-wide impact; leverages Operations and Area Managers to gather ideas and address challenges.
  • Networks with leaders across the network to share process improvements, drive efficiencies, and cost savings.
  • Establishes objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience.
  • Sets clear goals and expectations for Operations and Area Managers; measures performance, provides feedback, and holds leaders accountable.
  • Mentors and develops leaders and staff; participates in recruiting to identify and evaluate candidates for promotion and hire.
  • Collaborates with support functions (HR, Finance, Maintenance Engineering, Safety, IT, and others) to secure resources for projects and initiatives.

Additional Job Elements

  • Lift and move totes up to 49 pounds.
  • Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching; ability to work at varied heights.
  • Stand/walk for up to 10–12 hours.
  • Work in environments with variable noise levels, lighting, and temperature.
  • Ability to access all areas of the building (ladders, stairs, gangways) safely.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or 2+ years of full-time Amazon experience.
  • Experience with full staffing lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions, and terminations.
  • 7+ years of direct management experience.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field of operations.
  • Experience in fast-paced environments and managing workload under stress or during escalated activity.
  • Experience in management and leadership development, organization development, learning and development, group facilitation, training, and training design, or equivalent business experience.
  • Track record of leading an operation with at least 100 salaried and hourly staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop others into higher levels of leadership.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Compensation includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final pay is determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Location and compensation details: USA, CA, San Bernardino – 135,000.00 – 182,700.00 USD annually.
