Our client is looking for a Senior Mine Engineer to provide technical leadership for open pit mine planning and engineering at their mine in Northern Nevada. This role develops optimized mine plans aligned with site and corporate objectives, supports safe and cost-effective operations, and manages technical risks. Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, the role collaborates with Operations, Geology, and site leadership, initially focusing on long-term planning, economic trade-off studies, and technical studies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead engineering support for open-pit mining operations.
- Develop and optimize short-, medium-, and long-range mine plans, LOM strategies, pit designs, sequencing, and schedules.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost evaluation.
- Conduct engineering studies and trade-off analyses for mine design, haulage, equipment, and operational improvements.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and resource recovery.
- Monitor performance against plans and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate across geology, operations, processing, maintenance, environmental, and finance.
- Analyze production, cost, and equipment data.
- Prepare technical reports and management presentations.
- Mentor technical personnel and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent, with 6–10 years of open-pit mining experience
- Strong background in mine design, production optimization, budgeting, and cost control
- Experience with data analysis and performance improvement
- Fleet/dispatch systems, Trimble, and AutoCAD experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
- Proficiency in Vulcan, Micromine, Deswik, and Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
