Job Overview and Target Requirements
As a Senior Mechanical Estimator for IAC/Adelphi Construction, this position’s primary focus will be estimating a variety of mechanical type projects which includes, but is not limited to, structural steel erection, equipment pre-assembly, equipment installation, piping installation, ducting installation, portions of our EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) projects and some SEP (Standard Engineered Products) projects. IAC / Adelphi largely self-performs all construction-related scopes of work except for electrical. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong technical knowledge and who is a team-oriented communicator who can help the organization by being strong at estimating and proposal generation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Organize plans and specifications, perform quantity take-offs
- Communicate with our structural engineering team (in-house or consultant) and be able to fill scope gaps on conceptual drawings and schematics
- Delegate and coordinate concrete and electrical estimates to the respective estimators
- Partner with sales engineers to obtain information to properly evaluate and scope projects.
- Attend pre-bid job meetings and site surveys as required
- Generate RFIs, when appropriate, prior to bidding, and send them to the appropriate entity
- Understand Geotechnical Reports and include the costs for the identified requirements
- Build a preliminary schedule with Microsoft Project
- Have the ability to complete conceptual estimates in a timely manner
- Generate detailed Proposal documents, inclusive of Narrative, Scope of Work, and Schedule
- Lead the Kick Off / Hand Off meeting between Estimating and Project Management
- Single point of contact with the client to schedule and deliver the scope of service, as necessary
- Perform peer bid reviews and analyze completed job cost information to improve estimating methods and procedures
- Manage or assist Project Management in estimating change orders or other project needs related to pre-construction functions
- Maintain all appropriate safety requirements, including MSDS analysis, crew qualifications, and proper PPE required for labor projects
- Work with approved subcontractors and vendors, ensuring safety, schedule, and adequate cost
- Align with Project Management teams to assure a clear handoff of new projects.
- Coordinate with project management on lessons learned from executed projects to maximize margin on future projects
- Study and use cost-tracking data to enhance future estimates
- Work with cross-functional teams and managers to streamline business processes
- Assist in the training, guidance, and mentorship of entry-level and junior staff
Requirements
- 7+ years of relevant estimating experience
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in a related field is a plus. Construction Science or Construction Management, preferred
- Field Experience is a plus
- Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) certification is a plus
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus
- Proficiency in MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Project
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, or other related Construction Management software
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel to jobsites as needed
