Senior Mechanical Engineer – Supports

In this role, you will create design solutions for the design development of various reactor structures and components for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. Candidates must have extensive experience in structural equipment design. The Senior Engineer will report to a Reactor Enclosure System Design Manager and work as part of a high‑functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next‑generation advanced nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for ASME Section III Class NF structural supports, including frames, brackets, hangers, and other support elements used in nuclear facilities.
  • Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports in compliance with ASME Section III and related nuclear codes and standards.
  • Prepare engineering design packages, including performing or reviewing design calculations to ensure accuracy and code compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define design requirements, resolve technical issues, and optimize component performance.
  • Interface with internal quality teams, third‑party reviewers, and regulatory bodies to support audits, design reviews, and code certification processes.
  • Support material selection, fabrication requirements, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for Class NF components.
  • Participate in engineering change processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective action development as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of ASME Section III revisions, NRC guidance, and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of six years of equipment / component design experience; a relevant M.S. degree may be credited as two years of experience.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Deep understanding of structural and seismic design.
  • Experience in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and commercial mechanical stress analysis modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem‑solving skills, creative thinker.
  • Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.
  • Familiarity with CAD, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III preferred.
  • High degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

This position is subject to qualification requirements in accordance with ANSI/ANS 3.1. Candidates must meet the minimum education and experience criteria applicable to the role, including relevant nuclear industry experience where required. Verification of data will be part of the hiring process.

Job Details

Salary Range: $138,685 - $208,027 (specific to Washington State).

Job Type: Full‑time.
