About Apex Systems

Apex Systems is a global technology services and consulting company that connects organizations with the expertise needed to design, build, and operate mission‑critical infrastructure. We support leading organizations in the development of next‑generation data centers and digital infrastructure, helping clients scale rapidly while maintaining high standards of reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.

Position Overview

Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Data Center Mechanical Engineer to support the design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness of large‑scale data center facilities. This role will serve as a key technical resource, ensuring mechanical systems are designed, installed, and commissioned to meet performance, reliability, and operational requirements.

The ideal candidate thrives in fast‑paced construction environments, enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, and has experience working across multidisciplinary teams supporting mission‑critical facilities.

This position requires a hands‑on engineering professional capable of resolving field‑level issues, collaborating with multiple stakeholders, and ensuring that HVAC and mechanical infrastructure systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of one or more of the following systems: chilled water systems, air handling and HVAC systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing systems, or underground wet and dry utility systems.

  • 5+ years of experience supporting electro‑mechanical assemblies and mechanical testing activities, including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and technical documentation.

  • 5+ years of experience supporting mission‑critical facilities and associated mechanical infrastructure.

  • 5+ years of experience working with data center operations teams, mechanical contractors, vendors, and cross‑functional project stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Experience designing modular building‑scale assemblies and systems.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.

  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles related to medium‑scale manufacturing and production environments, structural systems and building components, and international building codes and standards.

  • Experience supporting hyperscale data centers, semiconductor facilities, industrial manufacturing operations, or other mission‑critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering & Technical Support

  • Provide technical support to data center operations, construction, and facilities teams throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Define and validate mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from concept through completion.

  • Support infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and renovation projects.

Design & Construction Coordination

  • Collaborate with engineering, design, construction, and commissioning teams to develop and implement data center mechanical designs.

  • Support project development from Basis of Design (BOD) through Issued for Construction (IFC) documentation.

  • Ensure alignment between design intent, installation practices, and operational requirements.

Site Engineering & Issue Resolution

  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical inquiries during project execution.

  • Manage field‑level engineering issues and coordinate resolutions with internal stakeholders, engineering partners, and contractors.

  • Lead investigation and resolution of mechanical system deficiencies and design conflicts.

Technology & Innovation Support

  • Participate in the deployment of new technologies and cooling solutions within data center environments.

  • Evaluate site‑specific infrastructure requirements and provide recommendations for implementation.

  • Support initiatives related to liquid cooling, high‑density computing environments, energy efficiency, and sustainability.

Mechanical Systems Ownership

  • Serve as the primary mechanical engineering resource for site‑level project execution activities.

  • Monitor project performance, quality standards, and mechanical system compliance.

  • Ensure all mechanical systems meet applicable codes, safety requirements, and operational expectations throughout construction and commissioning.

Quality, Commissioning & Operations

  • Support commissioning and startup activities for mechanical infrastructure systems.

  • Verify system performance against design requirements and operational criteria.

  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure successful system turnover and long‑term reliability.

Why Apex Systems?

  • Opportunity to support some of the world's most advanced data center and digital infrastructure programs.

  • Exposure to innovative cooling technologies, AI infrastructure, and mission‑critical environments.

  • Collaborative culture focused on technical excellence and professional growth.

  • Ability to work alongside experienced engineering, construction, and operations professionals delivering large‑scale infrastructure projects.
