Data Center Mechanical Engineer
Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Data Center Mechanical Engineer to support the design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness of large-scale data center facilities. This role will serve as a key technical resource, ensuring mechanical systems are designed, installed, and commissioned to meet performance, reliability, and operational requirements.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced construction environments, enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, and has experience working across multidisciplinary teams supporting mission-critical facilities. This position requires a hands-on engineering professional capable of resolving field-level issues, collaborating with multiple stakeholders, and ensuring that HVAC and mechanical infrastructure systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of one or more of the following systems: chilled water systems, air handling and HVAC systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing systems, or underground wet and dry utility systems.
- 5+ years of experience supporting electro-mechanical assemblies and mechanical testing activities, including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and technical documentation.
- 5+ years of experience supporting mission-critical facilities and associated mechanical infrastructure.
- 5+ years of experience working with data center operations teams, mechanical contractors, vendors, and cross-functional project stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience designing modular building-scale assemblies and systems.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and design principles related to medium-scale manufacturing and production environments, structural systems and building components, and international building codes and standards.
- Experience supporting hyperscale data centers, semiconductor facilities, industrial manufacturing operations, or other mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to data center operations, construction, and facilities teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Define and validate mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from concept through completion.
- Support infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and renovation projects.
- Collaborate with engineering, design, construction, and commissioning teams to develop and implement data center mechanical designs.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical inquiries during project execution.
- Manage field-level engineering issues and coordinate resolutions with internal stakeholders, engineering partners, and contractors.
- Lead investigation and resolution of mechanical system deficiencies and design conflicts.
- Participate in the deployment of new technologies and cooling solutions within data center environments.
- Serve as the primary mechanical engineering resource for site-level project execution activities.
- Support commissioning and startup activities for mechanical infrastructure systems.
