Onsite Full Time General

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Robotics Bay Area, CA · On site · Full time

About the company

We are an early stage robotics company building automated hardware for the logistics industry, starting with the delivery van. We are scaling our engineering team to meet strong early demand from some of the largest logistics companies in the world.

The role

We are looking for a versatile Senior Mechanical Engineer who loves building real hardware and takes ownership of their work from concept through customer deployment. You will play a central role on our hardware team, developing key mechanical subsystems from concept through prototype, test, manufacturing, deployment, and production scale up. We are a small team and every engineer owns a significant portion of the product.

What you will do

  • Develop core mechanical subsystems from concept through production, including end effectors, transmissions, actuated structures, and user facing mechanical systems
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, and operations teams
  • Codify promising designs with detailed engineering analysis, develop functional requirements and test plans, and anticipate and eliminate failure modes before they occur
  • Refine designs to increase reliability while cutting cost and weight
  • Drive transition to production, including leading pilot builds, developing production level manufacturing and assembly documentation, and visiting and qualifying international suppliers
  • Help recruit, mentor, and manage as the team scales
  • Directly support and debug pilots and customer deployments in the US and abroad, tackling mechanical and production issues as unit volumes scale from tens to hundreds to thousands

What you will need

  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, with 5 or more years of experience developing complex mechanical systems
  • At least one full cycle owning a complex mechanical system from prototype through volume production
  • Strong mechanical intuition and hands on build skills, including machine and wood tools
  • Significant analytical depth across statics, dynamics, FEA, tolerance analysis, fatigue, and vibration
  • Experience with DFM and DFA, BOM ownership, production documentation, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience diagnosing real world hardware failures and working with manufacturers to redesign for improved reliability, serviceability, and cycle life

Nice to have

  • Experience managing product lifecycle and navigating supply chain processes
  • Electrical integration, wiring, and cable routing experience
  • Familiarity with electronics prototyping platforms such as Arduino or ESP

In your first year

You will own one or more production robotic subsystems, ship hardware into customer deployments, improve designs through field feedback, visit suppliers, and play a direct role in scaling production from pilots to large commercial fleets.

Compensation and benefits

  • Competitive early stage equity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage at 80 percent, family coverage included
  • 401k with company match
  • Life and AD&D insurance
  • Unlimited PTO

How we work

We are an in person team. Building world class hardware requires rapid iteration, hands on collaboration, and frequent testing. We work hard and move fast, and we are looking for someone who wants to be part of a small, high intensity team building something new
