Role Description


The Senior Mechanical Engineer (HVAC/Plumbing) will provide technical leadership for building systems design, focusing on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing in commercial, institutional, and residential projects. This full-time, on-site role in Pasadena, CA involves preparing mechanical design calculations, sizing equipment, and developing detailed construction documents and specifications. Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating with internal electrical and plumbing teams, collaborating with external design partners, reviewing drawings and submittals, and performing site visits to assess existing conditions and support construction administration. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers, ensuring code compliance, managing project timelines and deliverables, and contributing to quality control and continuous improvement of design standards.


Qualifications



  • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering with experience in HVAC and plumbing system design for buildings.

  • Proficiency in Machine Design and Research and Development (R&D) for mechanical systems and components as needed.

  • Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for creating and reviewing mechanical drawings and models.

  • Demonstrated Project Management skills, including planning, coordination, scheduling, and stakeholder communication.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering, or eligibility and intent to obtain licensure, preferred.

  • Working knowledge of relevant building codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, local plumbing codes, mechanical codes).

  • Ability to lead design efforts, mentor team members, and collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Experience with energy modeling, Revit or BIM tools, and sustainable design practices is a plus.
