Job Description and Duties
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will perform, but not be limited to, preliminary, triage, normal, expedite, and over‑the‑counter reviews of submittal documents pertaining to the mechanical engineering design and construction of healthcare facilities as required to ensure compliance with Title 24, California Code of Regulations, the Office’s Policy Intent Notices, Code Application Notices and other applicable codes, guidelines and policies, and other reference materials. Conduct field observations as directed.

Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in mechanical design, plan review, and construction methods.
- Recent knowledge and experience within the past 5 years in interpreting requirements governing design and construction of health care facilities in California, including Title 24 Building Codes and Regulations, and other California business practices, policies, and interpretations for health facilities: hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and clinics.
- Knowledge and experience in mechanical design and review of fire system hydraulic calculations, capacity and calculations for fire pumps, underground piping for fire protection systems and fire hydrants.
- Knowledge and experience conducting field inspections and surveys and preparing reports and recommendations.
- Ability to handle code enforcement issues with architects, engineers, and health care facility owners.
- Ability to apply technical skills to formulate practical solutions in resolving mechanical plan review issues.
- Knowledge and experience in alterations of existing mechanical and plumbing systems; Mechanical design experience with NFPA 13, NFPA 20, NFPA 14, NFPA 24.
- Familiarity with energy standards.
- Experience working and resolving issues with a multi-disciplinary team, clients, contractors, and other technical and professional staff.
- Good writing and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Licensed as a Mechanical Engineer in the state of California.
