Senior Mechanical DesignerWe are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Designer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for driving mechanical solutions by providing exceptional CAD modeling and drafting support, documentation, testing and other technical support within a team-oriented environment.Essential FunctionsSupport completion of complex mechanical designs for Garmin productsIndependently complete derivative projects and basic mechanical design projects with minimal to no guidanceMaster CAD-user able to complete the most difficult tasksMockup/test basic mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirementsCollaborate and add value through active participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on mechanical engineering designsPossess strong knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, etc.

with the ability to apply knowledge towards complex mechanical designsManage cost tracking activities on tooling, part cost, and design timeExhibit excellent communication skills with the ability to share information to enable others within the immediate team to achieve objectives and make business decisionsDemonstrate familiarity with industry and Garmin product qualification tests and is able to specify and execute test plansWork under only very general direction with good risk discernment while demonstrating a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashionMentor and provide guidance to one or more less experienced Mechanical Designers (1 & 2) and participate in recruiting activities as assignedProvide technical input on designs and can independently update mechanical designs per requirementsProvide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and ability to find technical root causeOffer process improvement suggestions and author new proceduresBasic Qualifications2-year technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Engineering Technology AND a minimum of 8 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrated proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job descriptionDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsDesired Qualifications4-year technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Technology or Manufacturing Engineering Technology AND a minimum of 6 years relevant experienceOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Previous experience working in a team environmentPrevious work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer productsExperience using Onshape and/or SolidWorks CAD systems that includes surface modeling and sheet metal designsExperience with SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM) system or similar document management systemExperience with testing of products to verify compliance and design requirementsMechanical systems repair or troubleshooting experienceElectronic packaging design experienceGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
