Senior Manager, Marketing Planning & Operations

The Communication, Marketing and Brand team of the National Geographic Society uses creative and strategic tools to further the mission of the National Geographic Society while maintaining its position as one of the world’s most trusted nonprofit organizations and global brands. This senior manager role optimizes the Marketing & Communications (MarCom) function by ensuring structural and operational efficiency and leading marketing planning cycles, campaign delivery and operational excellence across the MarCom activity.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing Planning and Strategic Alignment (30%)
    • Develop and manage annual and quarterly strategic planning cycles across divisional MarCom teams and external partners.
    • Translate marketing strategy into operational plans, global campaign calendars and resource allocation.
    • Manage planning frameworks across demand generation, brand and lifecycle marketing.
    • Build a test and learn agenda in partnership with cross‑divisional teams.
    • Define marketing KPIs, dashboards and scorecards for executive‑level reporting.
  • Project Management (35%)
    • Program manager for cross‑channel, cross‑divisional MarCom campaigns, building and maintaining project plans, timelines and milestones.
    • MarCom product lead for marketing automation and project management platform.
  • Process and Operations Management (35%)
    • Standardize marketing processes, tools and project management frameworks to improve speed‑to‑market.
    • Design, implement and refine operational workflows, roles and responsibilities, and provide training.
    • Build and roll out templates to support identified processes.
    • Support adoption of GenAI and automation tools with governance and talent readiness.
    • Ensure operational procedures align with the Society’s information management policies.
    • Collaborate with internal marketing teams to improve operational maturity through automation and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Education or related field.
  • Experience – 7+ years in marketing operations, marketing planning or campaign management.
  • Knowledge & Skills – Expertise in marketing automation and project management platforms; strong oral and written communication; analytical skills; experimentation and holdout test methodologies; ability to collaborate across multiple departments; strong attention to detail; organizational and problem‑solving skills; capacity to multi‑task.
  • Desired Qualifications – Familiarity with Monday.com; experience building operational systems such as RACI, process flows, etc.; familiarity with core marketing and communications processes, tools, and templates.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $95,000 – $100,000.
