Job Title: Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering

Compensation: Competitive Base Salary + Bonus + Equity

An innovative battery technology company is seeking a Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering to lead the scale-up and commercialization of next-generation energy storage technologies. This individual will play a critical leadership role in transitioning advanced products from pilot manufacturing to high-volume commercial production while building and developing the manufacturing engineering organization.

Working cross-functionally with R&D, operations, equipment suppliers, and external manufacturing partners, the successful candidate will drive manufacturing excellence, process optimization, automation strategy, and production-line expansion.

The Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will lead manufacturing and process engineering activities across advanced battery production operations. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution, requiring an individual capable of designing and optimizing manufacturing processes, implementing industrialization strategies, and building a high-performing engineering team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for equipment selection, process development, production-line scale-up, quality improvements, and operational readiness as the organization expands from pilot-scale production to commercial manufacturing.

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of manufacturing and process engineers supporting production scale-up initiatives
  • Own manufacturing process, equipment, and tooling development from pilot through commercial-scale operations
  • Drive design-for-manufacturability initiatives in partnership with R&D and product development teams
  • Establish equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and operational excellence programs
  • Optimize production processes to improve yield, throughput, quality, cycle time, and manufacturing costs
  • Apply data-driven methodologies including SPC, DOE, PFMEA, process capability analysis, and continuous improvement tools
  • Specify, procure, install, commission, and ramp new manufacturing equipment and production lines
  • Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), equipment qualification, and production readiness activities
  • Support technology transfer and industrialization efforts for new products and manufacturing processes
  • Ensure manufacturing operations comply with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead process-safety reviews and risk mitigation activities across manufacturing operations
  • Report progress, performance metrics, and operational results to executive leadership
  • 7+ years of experience within manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams
  • Strong experience supporting battery manufacturing, advanced materials, chemicals processing, or related production environments
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment, tooling, automation systems, and process scale-up activities
  • Proven track record leading production-line commissioning, qualification, and ramp-up efforts
  • Experience improving yield, throughput, OEE, cycle times, and production costs through data-driven methodologies
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, process optimization, and continuous improvement principles
  • Experience working with equipment vendors, automation integrators, and external manufacturing partners
  • Excellent project-management, communication, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience commercializing and scaling emerging technologies from pilot to full production
  • Knowledge of FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ, process validation, MES, ERP, and quality systems
  • Experience with statistical process control, Cp/Cpk analysis, DOE, PFMEA, and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
  • Familiarity with manufacturing process documentation, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and manufacturing automation
  • Experience in battery manufacturing, energy storage systems, advanced materials, chemicals processing, or other high-growth industrial sectors
