This position focuses on developing standards, optimizing processes, and ensuring consistent, reliable delivery of mainframe services. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strategic vision to modernize z/OS environments and lead initiatives that enhance efficiency and scalability.About This Role:Key ResponsibilitiesServe as a technical leader, guiding best practices and mentoring team members on z/OS operating system upgrade optimizationDesign and implement standardized approaches for z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance to ensure repeatable, high-quality outcomesLead efforts to optimize system performance, streamline processes, and reduce operational complexityOversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM and ISV software products, ensuring alignment with enterprise standardsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute operating system upgrades with minimal business impactDevelop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and templates for operating system rolloutsDrive adoption of new technologies and capabilities (e.g., Sysplex enhancements, automation frameworks) to support strategic objectivesAct as the subject matter expert (SME) for mainframe infrastructure projects, providing technical direction and governanceProvide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for escalated incidents beyond Level 1 supportParticipate in after-hours and weekend support as requiredRequired ExpertiseProven experience in z/OS operating system upgrades, mass maintenance deployment, and software installationIn-depth knowledge of z/OS components: JES2, HCD/IODF, SMP/E, WLM, OMVS/USS, SMF/RMF, ASM, GRS, SDSF, TSO and RACFStrong understanding of communication protocols (VTAM, TCP/IP) and LPAR configuration via HMCExpertise in storage management (SMS, HSM, DFDSS, VSAM, IDCAMS, ICF Catalogs)Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mainframe Senior Systems EngineerPreferred SkillsFamiliarity with mainframe automation and monitoring toolsExperience with major subsystems (CICS TS, IMS, DB2 and IBM MQ)Knowledge of tape library configuration, printer setup, and TCP/IP server configurationUnderstanding of IBM Z hardware architectureThe Ideal Candidate for This Role:Leadership & Core CompetenciesDemonstrated ability to lead technical teams, influence decisions, and set strategic directionSkilled in developing repeatable, standardized processes for complex system upgrades and migrationsStrong problem-solving mindset with a focus on efficiency and continuous improvementExcellent communication skills—able to articulate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiencesWork Environment:It is anticipated that the incumbent in this role will work remotely, offering you the freedom to contribute to our mission from wherever you work best, without compromising on career growth or connection to our team.
