Senior Lead Software Engineer, Full Stack/Back End (Intelligent Foundations and Experiences)

At Capital One, you will lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers to deliver robust cloud‑based solutions that enable real‑time intelligent experiences for over 100 million customers.

What You’ll Do

• Lead a team of developers skilled in distributed microservices and full‑stack systems to create solutions that meet regulatory and business needs.
• Mentor team members and contribute to internal and external technology communities.
• Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud‑based, high‑impact products.
• Write or evaluate code using JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
• Utilize container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and AWS services to build scalable solutions.
• Experiment with emerging technologies, including interactive AI tooling, to accelerate productivity.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience (internship experience does not apply).
• At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree.
• 9+ years of experience in JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
• 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
• 4+ years of experience with open‑source frameworks.
• 1+ year of people‑management experience.
• 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling beyond basic code completion.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary ranges for full‑time positions vary by location and are based on the role and location:

• Cambridge, MA: $229,900 - $262,400
• McLean, VA: $229,900 - $262,400
• Richmond, VA: $209,000 - $238,500

Additional compensation may include performance‑based incentives, cash bonuses, and long‑term incentives. The role offers a comprehensive benefits package covering health, financial, and other wellbeing programs.
